27 Jan “The Hudson Calls”
My love and appreciation for the Hudson River and Hudson Valley began at the beginning. I was delivered at Vassar Hospital, which faces the river and the Mid Hudson Bridge. I grew up in LaGrange and Pleasant Valley, attending the Clearwater Festival and eating Stone Soup. I live in Yonkers where my balcony faces west to the Palisades Region and, when the leaves are off the trees, the George Washington bridge to the south. Every river town I’ve visited has its own unique feeling, but each of their residents share the same pride and urge to preserve what the river has to offer. I felt it was the right time to use the Hudson’s inspiration and share my experiences and thoughts in the form of a collection of original songs. “The Hudson Calls” showcases a unique dedication and tribute to various rivertowns and features throughout the Hudson Valley. Each song projects a distinctive musical style ranging from jazz to folk to ska, and the colors and textures were carefully curated and divided within the instrumentation of each piece.
My bloodline runs through the river valley. This music is a celebration of my parents as well as my direct ancestors, who date back to 1712 when Beverly Garrison first landed here. In fact, Garrison’s Landing is named after Harry Garrison, who founded “The Garrison and West Point Ferry Company” in 1821. The Hudson River is an extraordinary treasure of New York State and the Northeast and I plan to stay in this area for years to come, striving to protect its natural resources and using its special beauty to create more music.
